Are you planning to throw away those old, worthless tin cans? Think again. Tin cans are quite versatile and can be repurposed to make some really fun and useful items. Read on to discover more about the ways in which you can repurpose and reuse those humble tin cans.
Tin Can Animals:
This is the perfect craft activity for kids. You can make animal crafts by making use of tin cans. Just cover the tin can using colored paper and stick eyes, ears and nose to the can. For example, you can make an elephant by covering the tin can with brown paper and drawing eyes and sticking ears and trunk to it.
Lamp:
You can make an amazing table lamp by using a large tin can. You will have to paint the tin can and make holes on it for the light to fall through. You can also draw a design on the can and cut over it. This can be used as a rustic lamp shade over the lamp. What’s more, you may even place this tin can over candles or old lanterns to achieve a great look.
Reading Light:
If your reading light has become old, give it a new look using a tin can. Remove the old shade from the reading light and replace it with a tin can. You will have to make holes appropriately in the tin can and do a little bit of wiring to reassemble your reading light.
Planters:
You can use tin cans as planters and can decorate your home using these plants. A tin can need not always be cylindrical. Just hammer them to make them appear squished. Now, paint the cans in different colors. Plant your favorite flowers in these planters and flaunt them to the visitors.
Bird Feeders:
Tin cans can be used to make inexpensive and colorful bird feeders. First, paint the tin can in attractive colors. Now, place it horizontally and fix a wooden spoon or something similar to the base. This is something that the birds will sit on when they feed. Now, tie a twine, rope or ribbon around the can and suspend it from a tree branch. And yes, do not forget to fill the bird feeder with bird food!!!
Cookie Can:
This one makes for adorable gifts. Take any spare tin can and fill it up with cookies. Now, print cute little messages that you can stick over the can. The print out should be able to cover the whole can. After sticking the message, close the can by using transparent plastic sheets and securing it with colorful ribbons.
Makeup Organizer:
Do you have your make up stuff lying all over the dressing table? This generally means that you usually cannot locate what you are looking for. Take the easy way out and keep your makeup stuff organised. You can just take a couple of tin cans and use them to keep your hair brushes, eye pencils, lipsticks and the like organised.
Stationary Organizer:
Again, tin cans are ideal for holding pencils, sketches, pens, etc. in your kids study table. You can take the help of your kids in making an organizer for their stationary. Paint the can, stick colored paper over it or just let your kids decorate it. In the end, you will have a cute little stationary organizer that costs next to nothing.
Wind Chime:
If you have a set of cans that will nest together, you can make an amazing wind chime out of them. You will have to paint the cans first and then drill a hole at the bottom of each of them. Take a string and knot a wooden ring on one end of it. Now, thread the string through the cans starting from the smallest one. You can knot the string at the position where you want each can to rest.
Vertical Garden:
If you have a small garden or are simply out of space to grow new plants, you can always have a vertical garden. You can use the versatile tin cans as planters and use them for growing the plants. Just fix the cans onto the wall and start growing plants.
Flower Vase:
You can make rustic little vases using tin cans. Just paint the tin can and use your favorite graphic stickers to decorate them. That’s it, now just place a bunch of flowers in the can and you are done.
Drums:
You can make your little ones drums to play on using tin cans. Just cut off the tip of a balloon and secure it as a lid for the tin can using a rubber band. You can add some rice inside the can for additional effect. That’s it you are done, give your little one a pair of wooden sticks and let them drum away.
