Rather than using something that is laden with chemicals, expensive and definitely not good for your body, take the easy way out and make yourself some of these awesome shampoo bars. The best part? You can use these bars on your skin as well!!! Reason enough to start making one, don’t you think?
You will need coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, lye, palm oil, distilled water and essential oils for making these shampoo bars. In addition to the above mentioned ingredients you will also need glass bowl, pan, thermometer, silicone molds, digital scale, spoon, gloves and white vinegar.
Basic Process In Soap Making:
Soap is made by combining lye, water and various oils. A chemical reaction causes the oils to be saponified resulting in soap. Each oil needs a different ratio of lye to water, so it is necessary to use the correct ratio for soap making.
Combine Lye And Water:
Wear protective gloves before starting the process. Combine 141 grams of lye to 354 ml of distilled water. Stir the mixture and leave it aside for some time. Keep track of temperature using a thermometer.
Warm The Oils:
Measure out 295 ml each of coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil and castor oil and take them in the pan. Warm the oils without making them too hot. The lye water mixture and the oils should have a temperature of about 100 to 120 degrees when they are combined.
Combine The Mixture:
When both the lye water mixture and the oils achieve the desired temperature, pour the lye water mixture into the oils and stir well. The final mixture should be liquid but when a drop of the mixture is allowed to fall on the surface, it should stay there for a few seconds before disappearing. This is the desired consistency that should be achieved. Now, add the essential oils. You may use any of your favorite essential oil or a combination of oils according to your needs.
Pour Into Molds:
Pour the mixture into molds and cover it with a cardboard box. Now, leave it aside for about 24 hours for the saponification process to take place. After 24 hours, you can remove the soap from the molds. Place the soaps in a well-ventilated place for about 4 to 6 weeks for it to cure before using them.
