Mice once they get settled, it is not easy to get them out. Many of us would have tried poisonous baits and traps to get rid of mice. But, those of us with small kids or pets know the risk involved in using poisonous baits. Using traps is another story. A trap will never eliminate the source of the problem and worse, could even end up increasing the mice population. This is because by just eliminating a few mice using traps, you could end up increasing the food supply which will in turn increase the mice influx. The next time you are wondering if there is indeed a solution to this mice menace, try one of these natural methods. You might end up being surprised.
These Are Smile Ways To Get Rid of Mice Without Using Poison
1. Use Steel Wool, Copper Wire Mesh Or Scrub Pads
First things first, try locating the crevices and cracks through which mice enter your home. Once done, make use of steel wool and block the entrance. It will be virtually impossible for mice to chew through steel wool and enter your home. However, steel will rust over time, in which case, it is better to go for copper wire mesh to block the entrance. You can also use green scrub pads used for washing dishes to seal the entry way. Whichever option you choose, make sure you block the entrance real tight using glue or something similar. Remember, mice can always push through loose barricades.
Mice hate the pungent smell of peppermint. So, all you need to do is dip a few cotton balls with peppermint oil and place them strategically around the house. You will need to refresh the cotton balls with peppermint oil every week or so once the smell starts fading. The refreshing peppermint smell is an excellent way to deter the rodents.
3. Get A Cat
Just adopt a cat and let nature do its work. If it is not possible for you to get a cat, you can place used cat litter outside your home near the entrances. The mice will clear out as soon as they catch a whiff of cat urine. Same goes for dried snake poo as well. If there is a zoo or reptile center nearby, you can get dried snake poo and place them around the outside of your home to deter mice.
We all love the smell of clove, but mice simply hate it. You can use whole cloves or clove essential oil for deterring mice. Just soak a cotton ball in clove essential oil and place them strategically around the house. If you are using whole cloves, just wrap them in a cotton cloth and leave them lying around.
5. Pepper Spray
You can make a pepper spray by using habanero peppers and hot pepper flakes. First chop up the habanero pepper and blend it together with hot pepper flakes. Now, pour boiling water into the mixture and let it sit for about a day. Strain the solution using a filter and take the liquid in a spray bottle. Spray the solution around the house. When the mice sniff this mixture, they will scurry away looking a better place to invade. This method might not be suitable if you have pets in your home as they might end up sniffing the pepper spray.
6. Cut The Food Supply
Mice will be attracted to places where food is available. So, make sure you place all your food stuff in airtight containers. Also, ensure that you place the garbage bin as far away from your home as possible as mice are attracted to garbage smell.
