For making this soap, you need about 14 ounces of olive oil. If you want you can take a mix of both dandelion oil and olive oil here too. This way you will be able to get more of the fragrance from the dandelions. Use portions accordingly. Along with the above ingredients, you also need 8 ounces of coconut oil, about 2 ounces of shea butter and 2-3 ounces of sunflower oil and 1.5 ounces of jojoba oil and tamanu oil each. In case, you are using pure olive oil or even a mix, you can always add some essential oils of the dandelion oil. For this recipe, you will need about 1/2 ounce of pure and raw honey and 4.5 ounces of lye. If you want, you can also add the dried dandelion flowers here.
Step One- Prepare Flowers
First thing to do is that you should let your flowers dry out in the oven if you are using fresh ones. If not, then pour some overnight to get a great infusion. Then you can use this one for making your soap recipe. Make sure that you strain the same.
Step Two- Add The Lye
The next step would be adding lye to the mixture. Remember this olive oil is inclusive of the 14 ounces suggested in the recipe above. So don’t add extra. Now do this process over the sink to avoid wastage and making the place dirty. Mix and keep aside.
Step Three- Preparing Butter And Other Ingredients
Now you have to take the coconut oil along with the shea butter and then let it boil or heat over a double boiler. Doing so ensures that you will not be burning the oil too much. Once melted, you can now add your olive oil along with the other wet ingredients like sunflower oil, etc.
Step Four- Blending The Ingredients For Honey and Dandelion Soap
Now is the time to take everything off the heat and add all the other ingredients. Remember when blending you can either use an electric blender or even the traditional whisk. Make sure that you keep blending till the ingredients are smooth and there are no lumps. Else you will get a soap that is really not smooth and the ingredients spread out unevenly will give it a terrible shape.
Step Five- Simmer Another 15 Minutes
Once the ingredients are all well blended, you need to simmer them for another 15 minutes. Doing so is vital so that the consistency comes out even and also to get a beautiful texture that is familiar to that of the regular soaps. Now take it off the stove again and finally add more dried dandelion flowers if you want.
Step Six- Molding The Honey and Dandelion Soap
Once the mixture is thickening enough like a gelatin pudding, you should start pouring them into molds. Don’t pour before or else you will not be able to get the right weight and consistency. Let it set overnight and then you can use the amazing soap for all kinds of bathing and beauty purposes.
