A number of luxury beauty treatments you spend your money on can be easily done at home. One such popular salon treatment is paraffin wax manicure. Traditionally paraffin wax was used for reducing joint pain. The hot wax when applied to the skin stimulates circulation and opens up the pores that aids detoxification and allows the topical medications to penetrate the skin. When used for manicure, paraffin wax helps the skin to retain its moisture, which leaves the skin soft and smooth and strengthens the nails.
Here Is How You Can Do The Paraffin Wax Manicure At Home
Things You Will Need
4 lb food-grade paraffin wax
1 cup of vegetable or mineral oil
12 to 15 drops of aromatherapy essential oil of your choice
Two teaspoons of olive oil
A plastic tub
How To Prepare The Paraffin Wax Manicure
Add the paraffin wax block in a double boiler or a saucepan placed on a large container containing water. On low to medium heat melt the wax. When the wax starts to melt, add the vegetable oil and the essential oil to the wax. After the wax melts completely, remove the container from the stove. Coat the inner surface of a small plastic tub with vegetable oil and pour the melted wax in it.
How to Do The Manicure
Rub a small amount of olive oil on your hands and fingers. Check the temperature of the wax. When a thin layer starts forming on top of the wax or when the temperature falls to 50 degree Celsius, dip your hands in the paraffin wax. After a few seconds remove your hands, wait for 5 seconds and again dip your hands. Repeat four to five times, until your hands are fully saturated with the wax. After the wax stops dripping from your hands, cover them with plastic bags and wrap with a towel. After 10 minutes, remove the towel and the plastic bag. Remove the wax from your hands. Massage your hands with moisturizing lotion.
Things To Remember
Before applying the manicure, make sure that your hands are clean. You may use an exfoliating scrub to remove the dead skin and then wash with soap and water. After the manicure, thoroughly remove all traces of oil from the nail plate before applying nail polish.
To prevent burning of the skin, always check the temperature of the melted wax before dipping your hands. Avoid this treatment if you have cuts or rashes on the skin.
